The largest man-made epidemic , Mesothelioma

It is documented that Australia had the highest per capita use of asbestos in the world from 1950 to 1970. As a tragic consequence, Australia now has the highest per capita incidence of mesothelioma in the world. With more than 500 Australians contracting mesothelioma per year, estimated at up to 18 000 Australians will die from this cancer associated with asbestos in 2020.

Despite the growing awareness of the dangers of asbestos, there are many people who have not heard of mesothelioma. Asbestos cancer is defined as follows: malignant tumor of mesothelial proliferation of the pleura, pericardium and peritoneum, which form the inhalation of asbestos fibers.

As mesothelioma treated?

Most people who develop mesothelioma on jobs where they inhaled asbestos particles work. However, they may have been exposed to asbestos dust and fiber in other ways. This may include working with asbestos or use asbestos products home improvement, or even washing the clothes of a family member who worked with asbestos. The form of the disease caused by a rare form of cancer in which malignant (cancerous) cells are found in the mesothelium, a protective sac that covers most internal organs.

Mesothelioma occurs more frequently in men than in women and risk increases with age occur, but this disease can be either men or women at any age. About 2,000 new cases of mesothelioma are diagnosed annually in the United States. Although the reported incidence has increased over the past 20 years, mesothelioma is still a relatively rare cancer.
